Thank You Butler County United Labor Council

by Georgiann Kerr

I thank your organization and yourself for the enthusiastic support that was extended to the Butler County Democratic Party on the occasion of our Fall Dinner.  I am new to chairing the BCDC and it was The Butler County United Labor Council and its various members that guaranteed that my first event would be a thundering success.

I never was a union member. I did however suffer through some jobs that begged to be organized. My son Robert is a Pennsylvania State Employee and has a leadership position in AFSME. In his youth, which was a very long time ago, my husband was both a Longshoreman and after that a Teamster.

I look forward to working with organized labor as we move through the next several critical years. Labor is not only an integral part of the Democratic Party it has a history that parallels the history of the Democratic Party. When labor is strong the party is strong. When the Middle Class is vibrant and growing so too will be the Unions and the Democratic Party. Labor and its wonderful contribution to the history of The United States of America is too often overlooked or dismissed as of little import by our schools’ curriculum.

This year I want to continue to build the BCDC. We presently have over 100 vacancies and I would love to have some of those positions filled by Organized Labor. We need young people who may have political aspirations; send me your most vociferous, idealistic exuberant members. They will be welcome both as Committee members if their precinct has an opening and as potential Democratic candidates for public office. Butler County will never again have such a sparse ballot presence as we have this year. Our meetings are open to all registered Democrats. If someone is interested in being active they should attend a meeting, introduce themselves and we will welcome them into whatever capacity may be available.

Please share this with your membership not only to extend thanks but to alert them that we have vacancies and would welcome labor participation.

Thank you, thank you, thank you
